Do You Make Goals?

Do You Make Goals?

Do you make goals? I know I do! I make a lot of goals.  And I have many goals, too.  There are big goals and I have small goals.  It doesn’t matter the size of your goal as long as you make them.  I have accomplished a few goals already.  Some were big and some were small but I made them, kept them and I achieved them.

Where do you start making goals?

Before setting any goal, you must know what you want first.  Once you know what it is you want, for example I want to buy a house (big goal), then you need to know what that goal is before you can do anything else.  So, before I can buy a house there are a few things I need to do first.  So, I need to create smaller goals.  By creating smaller goals, they are getting closer and closer to my big goal.

Have you ever watched that movie, “What About Bob?”  It’s a great movie! It has Bill Murray and Richard Dreyfuss, who make a great comedy duo.  The movie is about Bob (Bill Murray).  He is a patient of Dr. Leo Marvin (Richard Dreyfuss).

Dr. Marvin is a psychiatrist who has taken Bob as a new patient.  Bob is a very needy guy with a lot of phobias and who doesn’t quite understand boundaries.  To help Bob with his phobias and neediness, Dr. Marvin tells Bob to take “baby steps.”  This was supposed to help Bob while until Dr. Marvin got back from vacation.  So, when Dr. Marvin goes on vacation, so does Bob.  Although Dr. Marvin doesn’t realize this until it’s too late.

Dr. Martin and his family are all on vacation and all of a sudden Bob is there at their front door.  He imposes himself onto the family without understanding what he really is doing.  He just needs Dr. Marvin and his help with his phobias.

It Takes Baby Steps

Dr. Martin begrudgingly helps Bob in the hopes of getting rid of him, so he can enjoy his vacation.  However, his family has fallen in love with Bob and want him to stay.  So, throughout the movie, Dr. Martin and his family have been pushing Bob to take “baby steps.”

For Bob to get over his phobias and neediness, he must take “baby steps.”  In life when you are making big steps or goals, you are taking baby steps or creating small goals.  That is how I look at the goals I make for myself.  For each big goal I have, I have smaller ones.  I just keep saying baby steps, baby steps, baby steps.  It helps me know that I am getting closer and closer to the bigger goals.  It makes me so happy and I feel accomplished.

You Can Do It!

You can do the same thing.  Whatever you want in life, whether it’s buying a house like myself or going to college, you must figure out what you need to do to get there.  You start taking baby steps one at a time.  The more you take, the closer you will get to your goal.

Even with goals, slow and steady wins the race!
