IBS Really Sucks

IBS really sucks. I have been trying to workout for the past week but can’t because of an IBS flare up. IBS is also known as Irritable Bowel Syndrome.
It’s painful and not fun. If you are a woman who has experienced cramps or labor pains, then you will understand this kind of pain.
Also, the diarrhea isn’t fun either. Imagine going out somewhere or going to your job, then all of a sudden the pain and diarrhea comes. Now, you have to find a bathroom immediately or else you will have an embarassing mess.
According to WebMD, these are the symptoms:
- Bloating
- Gas
- Constipation — the stool comes out either lumpy or hard
- Diarrhea — the stool comes out loose or watery
- Alternating bouts of constipation and diarrhea
- Bowel movements that feel uncontrollably urgent, difficult to pass, or incomplete
- Clear or white mucus with the stool
As you can see by the symptoms above that this is no joke and no fun. As of today, I have been suffering with this flare up for 6 days and lost 4 lbs. Don’t get me wrong, I need to lose weight but not like this.
If you are trying to lose weight and suffering from this, then you can still do weights but I do not suggest any cardio. If you can’t do any strength training, then it’s okay. Don’t stress yourself out because it will make your IBS symptoms worse.
So, if you suffer from this or have these symptoms, I suggest seeing a doctor to help alleviate the pain.
Also, eat a bland diet and checkout the FODMAP diet. One of the metabolic nutritionist I work with suggested trying the FODMAP diet. So, I am waiting for this book, The Everything Guide To The Low-FODMAP Diet: A Healthy Plan for Managing IBS and Other Digestive Disorders.
I will keep you posted on the fun and joy of doing the FODMAP diet!
